If you’re going to succeed as a mining company in Vietnam, you need to have a lot more than just technical expertise. The reason AMR has established a reputation for successful operations in Vietnam is our approach to people and our willingness to integrate with the community. For example, did you know that 93% of our workforce are Vietnamese nationals?
This nationalised focus includes senior leadership roles such as government relations, commercial, HR and Legal, through to operations, including exploration, geology, metallurgy, mining engineers, environmental science, equipment and plant operators, truck drivers and jumbo operators. In other words, Vietnam is represented across all levels and roles within the company.
A further key to our success has been establishing and building relationships. This has been achieved as a result of Executive Management living and working in Hanoi. This, in turn, has enabled us to ensure that relationships, cultures and issues are dealt with face to face and immediately.
Below, you’ll find some snapshot bios of key team members.
Evan Spencer, President and Chief Executive Officer
Evan is a highly experienced mining executive with over 20 years of experience in the mining industry. Prior to joining AMR, Evan held senior management and executive positions with Kagara Limited, Barrick Gold, Placerdome and Gold Fields. Evan holds a degree in Geology, a Masters in Economics and Management, Mining Engineering and post graduate studies in Business. He also holds a Diploma in front line management and a W.A. First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency.
Sean Duffy, Chief Financial Officer
Sean brings with him more than 20 years of international finance experience in the mining industry. Immediately prior to joining AMR he worked with Anglo Asian Mining Plc. where he served as CFO and Company Secretary for the London-listed gold mining company.
Dinh Huu Minh, Exploration Manager
Dr. Dinh Huu Minh is amongst Vietnam’s most experienced and successful geologists. He began his career in 1983 at the Research Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources in Vietnam as a Geological Researcher and has worked with Canadian and Australian-based companies as a Project Geologist on a variety of successful gold, copper and nickel deposits in Vietnam.
In 1995, Dr. Minh joined Ban Phuc Nickel Mines Ltd as Deputy Director General, where he oversaw the completion of AMR's Feasibility Study for the Ban Phuc Nickel Project. Dr. Minh holds a Ph.D. in Geology from Hanoi University of Mining & Geology in Vietnam, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Mineral Exploration from ITC in The Netherlands and a Geology Engineering Diploma. He is also a member of AusIMM (The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy).
Tran Ngoc Anh, Corporate Affairs Director
Ngoc Anh has been working with AMR/BPNM for more than 10 years in the key position of Corporate Affairs Director. She is responsible for providing high level corporate advice, liaising with local and municipal government and ensuring the strategic expansion of AMR/BPNM in Vietnam.
Ms Mai, Corporate Accountant
Mai was one of the first 30 certified accountants/auditors in Vietnam and has worked for major international auditing firms including Arthur Anderson and KPMG. She has a wide range of accounting and management responsibilities and reports directly to our CFO, Sean Duffy. Mai is a Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”) and also obtained the Chief Accountant certificate in 2005.
Ms Minh, Human Resource Manager
Ms Minh graduated from Hanoi National University in 2000 and in 2009 was awarded Master certified in HR Management from Villanova University, Pennsylvania, USA. She has significant knowledge and experience from several internationally supported projects and programmes in the field of development in Vietnam. Prior to joining the team, Ms Minh worked in the position of HR, Office and CSR Manager for Esoftflow, a Danish company, from the first days of its establishment for six years. Ms Minh brings an excellent understanding of Vietnamese labor laws and HR strategies within Vietnam.
Ms Huong, Legal & Compliance Manager
Ms. Doan Lien Huong is our legal and compliance manager and in that capacity is responsible for providing legal advice to Management on all aspects of the company. She handles all aspects of contracts, working with Management to establish and implement internal policies and procedures, supporting the company in all litigation matters and retaining any external legal resources. Ms. Doan Lien Huong received a Bachelor of Law degree from Hanoi College of Law and a Master of Law degree in International Trade Law from University of Arizona, USA.
